- Rise of PyTorch: While Keras was becoming tightly integrated with TensorFlow, PyTorch (released by Facebook in 2016) grew in popularity, especially in the research community. PyTorch’s dynamic computation graph and flexibility for creating custom models appealed to researchers, leading to a shift in preference for certain academic institutions.
- Friendly Competition: Despite the rise of PyTorch, Keras maintained a strong presence due to its simplicity, its production-ready features in TensorFlow, and its wide use in industry. Many developers and companies continue to rely on Keras for prototyping and deployment.
